Police: Money stolen from Fieldale Farms bank account

Gainesville Police are investigating fraudulent activity involving Fieldale Farms’ bank account.

“It appears that someone has accessed Fieldale’s bank account without their permission,” Cpl. Jessica Van wrote in an email Friday.

According to the police’s log, the activity took place sometime between Oct. 18 and May 25. The report was created Thursday.

Van said “an undisclosed amount of money was stolen,” but police could not offer further details.

Fieldale Farms President Tom Hensley said the business is “deluged with false payroll checks” coming from far-away places where the business doesn’t have employees.

“We are constantly bombarded with false checks, and it’s a problem not only for us but for every other business,” he said.

The address listed in the report returns to Peach State Bank and Trust.

“We’re confident that the bank will take care of it. We haven’t suffered any loss ourselves. This is more of a bank issue than a Fieldale Farms issue,” Hensley said.

A representative for the bank did not return a call for comment Friday.
