Gwinnett County Police investigating a threat to “shoot up” the Mall of Georgia identified the person and said they believe the mall does not face “any immediate danger.”

Police said the threat was about a shooting at 3 p.m. Tuesday originally made in an online gaming chat room. The identity of the person was not released by law enforcement.

“There were also statements made in the chat room about the number of people that were going to be shot and a reference to committing suicide after the shooting,” Cpl. Deon Washington wrote in a news release.

Police said they sent “undercover tactical resources” to the Mall of Georgia in addition to uniformed officers inside and outside of the mall.

“Citizens should expect high visibility patrols to continue for an undetermined period of time,” Washington wrote.

Cpl. Michele Pihera said detectives are determining whether criminal charges will be made.
