A Buford man has been charged with murder in the Wednesday crowbar beating death of his father.
Joseph Allen Cook, 40, who also is charged with aggravated assault, is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute at 5605 Bridle Glen Drive after Cook’s father, Larry Cook, 68, called 911 at 6:19 p.m.
“The dispatcher could hear yelling and someone requesting police,” states a Gwinnett County Police press release. “The phone line disconnected a few minutes later.”
Within a few moments, another call came into the 911 Center. The caller, a neighbor, said that one man was beating the other man in the driveway of the home, according to police.
As the first responding officer was arriving on scene, a third 911 call came in. The caller said his neighbor just ran to his home and said that her son was beating her husband.
As police arrived, Joseph Cook was taken into custody and the Gwinnett County Fire Department arrived to treat the victim. Officers later found a crowbar nearby.
Shortly after arriving at Gwinnett police headquarters, he allegedly punched a female officer. She was treated at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville and released.
Cook “will likely face additional charges for assaulting the officer once the full extent of her injuries are known,” according to the press release. “She is expected to be OK.”
