One man was shot after a fight Friday afternoon in the Lakewood Baptist Church parking lot, Gainesville Police said.

Authorities responded to the call around 2:41 p.m. Friday in the back parking lot of the Thompson Bridge Road church.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with Lakewood Baptist Church,” Gainesville Police Sgt. Joe Britte said.

Two men, Britte said, met at the parking lot and fought.

The men have not been identified by police at this time, though they are not members of the church, Britte said.

One man has been transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries and the second man was taken into custody. Britte said police didn’t know of any injuries for the man in custody.

Members of the church said no children were in the building at the time of the shooting.
