Gwinnett County Fire Department and Georgia Forestry battle a brush blaze Wednesday off Holman Road near Hoschton. Braselton Highway was closed to fight the fire.

A brush fire on the outskirts of Hoschton temporarily closed Braselton Highway as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Gwinnett County Fire and Gwinnett Police responded to the fire call at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Holman Road NE in unincorporated Hoschton, Gwinnett County Firefighter Captain Tommy Rutledge said in a news release. Firefighters saw the brush blaze in the woods next to Braselton Highway and closed its northbound lane, he said.

Additional fire units and the Georgia Forestry Commission were asked to help battle the blaze.

The fire was sparked by a previous outdoor burn pile and spread to the woods. The blaze damaged an outbuilding and fence before spreading to an adjoining property, Rutledge said.

No one was injured and no other structures were damaged. But the blaze scorched 1 « to 3 acres of dense underbrush.

The property owner was cited for the burn violation by the Georgia Forestry Commission.
