Oakwood City Manager Stan Brown welcomes visitors to the grand opening and dedication of the Hall County “E-House” on Monday afternoon at the Elachee Nature Science Center. The “E-house” is a solar and sustainable demonstration building located at Elachee and includes solar panels, xeriscaping, energy-efficient windows and insulation and a “green roof.”
The 240-square-foot building off the parking lot and near the woods may look like a shed, but the Elachee Nature Science Center in Gainesville is using it to showcase an eco-friendly style of housing construction. “It’s a great educational addition to our program,” said Elachee’s executive director, Andrea Timpone, following a dedication of its E-House on Monday at the nature center, 2125 Elachee Drive. “Adding this hands-on component raises our energy program to a whole new level,” she added.
