The Oakwood Planning and Zoning Board met Monday evening at City Hall to hear an update on development projects within the city.

City Director Larry Sparks said that several new businesses are making headway on building construction.

Sam’s Club adjacent to Wal-Mart on Mundy Mill Road has obtained its construction and building permit, which allows the company to begin construction.

Workers have graded the site and have poured foundation footings.

The permit for Sam’s Club also covers a fuel center. Sparks said that in the past week, the city has approved the plans for a Wachovia building to be constructed across from the entrance to Gainesville State College on Mundy Mill Road.

He said that construction is to begin on the site in the next week.

Sparks also informed the Planning and Zoning Board of the progress made on the Kroger construction site on Winder Highway.

He said that trees have been removed from the site and that workers are currently grading the site to prepare for the laying of the new grocery store’s foundation.
