Worries about an aging post office and shrinking routes prompted Oakwood City Council Monday night to direct city staff to see if there are any issues that need to be addressed.
“We know that route carriers have moved to Flowery Branch (post office),” City Manager Stan Brown said.
Also, the building at the corner of Main Street and Old Oakwood Road is “in disrepair,” he said.
The building isn’t owned by the U.S. Postal Service, so “we need to find out more about the lease situation and see how they handle real estate,” Brown said.
“We need to understand what their needs are and see if it’s the building or more operational issues,” he added. “... I know through past experience, just trying to find out who to talk to at the post office can be a challenge.”
