Northeast Georgia Medical Center eases parking pain by adding spaces at Gainesville campus

Finding a parking space at Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Gainesville campus should get a little easier.

The hospital has added 70 patient and visitor parking spaces at the hospital at 743 Spring St. The new spaces are in the lower level of the Jewell parking deck, which is outside the Outpatient Building near the emergency department.

The new spaces are accessible through the campus’ south entrances.

Previously, visitors could only park on the top level of the deck.

All patient and visitor parking on the campus is free. The total number of spaces wasn’t available Monday.

“We are committed to offering our patients and families convenient access to our services and specialties and hope these additional parking spaces make their visit to our campus less challenging,” hospital president Louis Smith said.

The new spaces replace ones that were used by employees.

The hospital has expanded parking at Laurelwood, a mental health and substance abuse treatment center off Wisteria Drive, to accommodate employees.

Otherwise, employee parking is spread around the campus “just depending on where you work,” spokeswoman Anna Dover said.

Early Monday afternoon, hospital visitors had their pick of spaces at the hospital.

Lilburn resident Tom Cox said he has never had problems finding a space.

“Most of my (appointments) have been in the morning, and this is my afternoon one,” he said. “But like you see, it’s not been a problem.”
