A North Hall High School security guard was thrown 12 to 15 feet after being hit by a Jeep near the school Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Ashley Parr, 21, of Gillsville, who was helping direct traffic, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries.

Georgia State Patrol said Lanier Dudley, 50, of Talmo, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Ga. 283/Mount Vernon Road around 3:47 p.m. Tuesday.

Dakota Joy, 17, of Clermont, was leaving the high school in a Jeep Compass.

Georgia State Patrol post commander Anthony Coleman said Parr, dressed in a reflective vest and gloves, “directed the Chevrolet Silverado to stop and then motioned for traffic on the school property to begin to enter out into the roadway on Ga. 283.”

“Mr. Dudley was distracted by his cellphone and failed to stop for the crossing guard,” Coleman wrote in an email. “As the Jeep Compass entered out into the roadway, the Chevrolet Silverado struck the left side of the Jeep causing it to rotate counterclockwise.”

The Jeep then struck Parr as the car rotated.

“(Parr) was thrown approximately 12-15 feet from the center turn lane to the fog (line) of the roadway,” Coleman wrote.

No other injuries were reported, and charges are pending.
