A fire at Lanier Terrace Apartments at Jesse Jewell Parkway and Downey Boulevard is still under investigation, but officials are calling it “suspicious in nature.”According to Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada, firefighters responded to the apartment fire on the second story of the “I” building. The fire was extinguished and contained to the one apartment, which was vacant, but two adjacent apartments received smoke damage.Two families, five adults and two children, were displaced because of the smoke damage. The Red Cross is attending to those families.Damage estimates are around $20,000.
