Phoenix Patriot Foundation’s Veterans Scholarship winner Jason Nichols is an automotive technology student at North Georgia Technical College.

North Georgia Technical College automotive technology student Jason Nichols, of Carnesville, was recently awarded the 2018 Phoenix Patriot Foundation’s Veterans Scholarship for the state of Georgia, totaling $1,000.

Requirements for the scholarship included being a veteran and writing an essay about plans after college.

Sgt. Nichols served six years in the United States Army out of Fort Carson, Colorado, fourth infantry division, where he deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan. He said he was floored when he opened the letter that he had received the scholarship and couldn’t believe he had been chosen to receive the award.

Nichols has started a veterans club on campus to network with other veterans to help identify those who may need help academically and personally.

After graduating this summer, Nichols and his wife hope to open an Army surplus store to help veterans in the community.
