A new Wendy’s restaurant is planned off Mundy Mill Road in front of Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart in Oakwood and across from the University of North Georgia.
Construction could start as soon as Oakwood approves building plans, said Joe Turner, president of the franchise, Clemson, S.C.-based First Sun Management Corp.
Joe Hayes, Oakwood building official, confirmed that “grading and building plans are in review.”
Weather permitting, the 3,000-square-foot restaurant at 3825 Mundy Mill Road could open in early April, Turner said.
Oakwood City Council approved sewer service to the restaurant at its monthly meeting Monday night.
As part of the new restaurant plans, First Sun plans to close its Wendy’s at 3652 Wallis Road, which is off Interstate 985 in Oakwood.
The company, which also operates in Gainesville, opened the Wallis Road location 20-plus years ago, Turner said.
The new restaurant will represent “everything that the millennial generation and others will want,” he said.
“The (current) Wendy’s, when we built it, was the most modern technology thing that was there, and now … there’s something newer.”
