New rate offered to Gainesville-based Red Oak Sanitation

It is unclear whether a private trash collection service operating in Flowery Branch and unincorporated Hall County will accept a newly proposed discounted rate to dispose at the Candler Road landfill. Gainesville-based Red Oak Sanitation had initially sought to dump its waste collections in Hall at $30 per ton, guaranteeing a minimum of 400 tons unloaded each month and generating an estimated $144,000 in additional revenue for the county. The Board of Commissioners, however, thought that rate was too low, and instead approved a rate offer Thursday for $33 per ton, which would generate about $158,400 in revenue annually.
