Within about a year, Hall County plans to reopen Murrayville Park, which closed in 2011 due to budget cuts.

The park on Bark Camp Road in North Hall will be completely renovated, with new tennis courts, a redone baseball field and repaved parking lots and driveways, according to Assistant County Administrator Marty Nix.

Workers have already begun clearing the lot, Nix said. Work will continue throughout the summer, and weather permitting, the park will likely be open within a year.

The $1.5 million project will be funded by special purpose sales tax funds.

In 2011, the county’s parks budget was cut significantly due in part to the economic downturn. Platt Park in South Hall, which was also shut down during that round of cuts, is scheduled to reopen in July, according to county spokeswoman Katie Crumley.
