Crews now will start work Monday on resurfacing Mount Vernon Road from Thompson Bridge Road to Dahlonega Highway in North Hall.
The work, which had been scheduled to take place this week, will occur weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after 7 p.m., as weather permits, said Teri Pope, a spokeswoman with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Flaggers will stop traffic, with pilot vehicles leading motorists through the work zone.
Crews won’t be allowed to work within a half-mile of North Hall Middle School and North Hall High School between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., said Russell McMurry, district engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The restriction should help minimize the project’s effect on students, staff and parents, he added.
The Hall County school system began the school year Monday.
The estimated cost of the 9.3-mile project is $1.29 million, with federal stimulus funding picking up the tab.
“If the weather cooperates, work should be finished this calendar year,” McMurry said
