Gwinnett police say a motorcyclist trying to pass a car in front of him was killed Saturday morning when he collided with another automobile.

The man -- Thomas Gerald Aldridge, 68, of Dacula -- was traveling near 2283 Buford Dam Road in Buford behind a car and a pickup truck, when the truck stopped to make a left turn.

According to Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department, the motorcycle passed the car, “clipping the left rear of the vehicle...then collided with the left side” of the pickup truck.

Aldridge died at the scene. According to Smith, investigators found that Aldridge was at fault in the collision. “Excessive speed is a suspected factor,” Smith said.

No other injuries were reported in the wreck, which occurred at about 10:55 a.m. Saturday.
