Two people were shot, one fatally, early Saturday at a home in Buford.

Gwinnett police responded at 2:55 a.m. to 4637 Vintage Lane, about three miles south of Friendship Road near Interstate 985.

Timothy Thornton, 31, of Buford, was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A 45-year-old woman was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her arm.

Gwinnett County Police report “there were several people inside the residence when an altercation occurred and several shots were fired.”

The investigation by Gwinnett County Police homicide detectives was still ongoing as of Saturday evening.

Those at the home this morning refused to comment.

The manager of a gas station several hundred feet from the shooting said he was surprised by the violence.

“We have had robberies in this area before, but no killing,” said Sam Habul, manager of a Citgo station at the corner of Thompson Mill Road and Pebblebrook Drive, which is the neighborhood entrance.

“I don’t know what to say,” Habul said. “I have a lot of customers who come from this neighborhood, and this is just beyond scary for everybody.”
