A man was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital Thursday after flipping his car multiple times on U.S. 129 in a one-car accident.

The Georgia State Patrol said the driver was northbound in a Lincoln Continental about 1:30 p.m. when he lost control at Blackstock Drive near the Jackson County line.

The car left the road and flipped several times down an embankment. Traffic was shut down in both directions until the man could be freed from the wreckage by emergency responders and loaded onto a helicopter.

The man’s name and condition were not available late Thursday.
