A Flowery Branch man was convicted Thursday in a 2015 rape case, according to authorities.

Kyle Janess, 20, was found guilty by a jury after roughly 40 minutes of deliberation.

Janess was sentenced to life with 25 years to serve in incarceration. The rest of the sentence may be on probation.

Attorney Hammond Law did not return an immediate request for comment Friday morning.

Senior Judge John Girardeau presided over the case.

According to information at a committal hearing, the Gainesville Police investigator told the court that Janess and the victim knew each other.
