A man arrested by the Oakwood Police Department Sunday night after allegedly kidnapping a woman in Gainesville will also be charged with rape, police said Tuesday.

In a joint investigation between the Oakwood and Gainesville police departments, the suspect has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault with a vehicle and cruelty to children. His name is not being released because it is a domestic incident.

Cpl. Danny Sridej, Oakwood police investigator, said a charge of rape is forthcoming by Oakwood police, pending the completion of the investigation.

Kevin Holbrook, public information officer for Gainesville, said the suspect met with a woman at Longwood Park around 5 p.m. Sunday.

"She got into the male's vehicle, at which point they left ... but he refused to let her out of the vehicle and drove to Oakwood," Holbrook said.
