Fieldale employees walk through the parking lot Wednesday afternoon at the company's Murrayville plant. A 31-year-old Gainesville man at Fieldale Farms was possibly electrocuted Tuesday morning at the plant, according to authorities.

A 31-year-old Gainesville man was possibly electrocuted Tuesday at Fieldale Farms, Hall County Fire Services Deputy Chief Chad Black said.

"We responded to an electrocution and transported," Black said.

Ricardo Aburto’s death at the Murrayville poultry processing plant is being investigated as a suspicious death, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes said.

"Early indicators suggested that it may have possibly been a work-related death, however an autopsy was performed today and the results are still pending," Bailes wrote in an email Wednesday. "We cannot rule this as an electrocution at this time."

Aburto worked off and on for four years at Fieldale Farms.

"The whole team at Fieldale Farms is saddened by this. We miss him and wish his family the best," Fieldale Farms President Tom Hensley said.

Hensley said the information he received from medical responders was that Aburto did not have any indication of burns on his fingers or feet.

"He was on the ladder, as we understand from talking to witnesses," Hensley said. "He evidently fainted while on the ladder and fell off the ladder."

Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials are working in conjunction with Sheriff’s Office investigators, Bailes said.

"He took care of stuff," Hensley said. "When something was broken, he fixed it."

Aburto was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died, Black said.
