Gainesville police have charged a man in connection with an early Wednesday morning robbery at a convenience store on West Ridge Road.
Ronald Levi Miller, 45, of Gainesville is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft by taking and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.
At 1:44 a.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the QuikTrip convenience store at 897 W. Ridge Road regarding an armed robbery. The clerk reported that the man had been loitering in the business until all other customers left the store. At that point, the man approached the clerk, showed the clerk a firearm and stole money from the store’s register, according to Lt. Brian Kelly.
The suspect then left the store on foot.
A police dog helped officers track the suspect to a location off of Cooley Drive. Miller was found hiding in some bushes behind a house, and he was immediately taken into custody, according to Kelly. Miller also had what officers suspected to be a crack pipe in his possession, resulting in the drug charge, according to Kelly.
The money taken in the robbery was recovered from the suspect, and the clerk was not injured in the incident, according to Kelly.
The motive for the robbery is unknown at this time.
