A Gainesville man is accused of raping a woman and attempting to strangle her and smother her with a pillow, police said.

Myles David Vaughn, 26, was charged with rape, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and battery. He was booked Friday, Aug. 31, in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains.

According to the warrants, Vaughn is accused of “strangling (the woman) on and about her neck causing her to begin to lose consciousness.” The warrant also said Vaughn allegedly placed “a pillow over her face smothering her, placing her in fear of death.”

The woman also suffered severe bruising to her eye after Vaughn allegedly slapped her, according to court documents. The incident is alleged to have taken place between Aug. 11 and Aug. 13

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the 21-year-old woman went to Vaughn’s house, where they “got into a dispute” and Vaughn “forced her to have sex.”

The report was filed at the police department on Aug. 25, and Holbrook said the two were previously acquainted.

As of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, no attorney information was filed with the Hall County Magistrate Court.
