A Gainesville man is in custody after a burglary late Thursday at West Hall Middle School on McEver Road.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the school just after 10 p.m. Thursday and found a door forced open and someone attempting to remove a portable generator.
The suspect ran and a K-9 team was called to assist in a search. At about 7 Friday morning, Adam Morgan Meeks, 29, was found exiting the woods at the intersection of McEver Road and HF Reed Boulevard.
So far, he is believed to have been the only suspect involved, said Hall Co. Sheriff’s Stephen Wilbanks.
Meeks was apparently seeking anything of value, said Wilbanks, with other offices at the school showing signs of entry.
“He damaged some doors and cabinets during the course of the burglary,” Wilbanks said. Damage is estimated at $1,650.
Meeks is charged with burglary in the second degree and misdemeanor obstruction of officers and has been booked into the Hall County Jail. The case remains under investigation.
