A Cleveland man has been charged in the Tuesday armed robbery of a North Hall County bank.

Jason Keith Williams, 38, is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail. He was arrested Thursday at a Comfort Inn and Suites hotel in Jackson County.

Williams is accused of robbing at gunpoint the BB&T branch at 5289 Cleveland Highway south of Clermont near Quillians Corner.

Nicole Bailes, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said authorities later learned Williams may be connected to crimes in other jurisdictions.

In the Tuesday incident, authorities said a man entered the bank at 11 a.m. and demanded money from tellers. He put the money in a leopard-printed tote bag or purse before leaving the bank, which is in a busy commercial area, and drove away.

The robbery prompted a major search of the area involving sheriff’s deputies and the Georgia State Patrol, including a helicopter flyover.

Investigators have received many tips and much information about the suspect, stated a sheriff’s office news release.

The FBI also is investigating the incident.

Other charges are pending.
