A Gainesville man is accused of taking out a Craigslist ad in 2015 and communicating electronically with people to obtain the “date rape drug” to knock a woman unconscious and rape her, according to authorities.

Timothy Wayne Garrett, 52, was charged in a Dec. 1 indictment with criminal attempt to commit rape, criminal solicitation to commit rape and criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Garrett’s attorney Brett Willis declined to comment on the charges.

According to the indictment, Garrett allegedly arranged to buy gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), known as the “date rape drug” and communicated “with another his plan for himself and others to have sexual intercouse with (the victim) while she was ‘completely unconscious and unaware of what’s happening to her’.”

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said Garrett was arrested in February 2015 “after he purchased what he thought was (GHB) from undercover agents at the (Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad) unit.”

No further information was released by the Sheriff’s Office.

The “date rape drug” is considered to be a Schedule I controlled substance.

According to the indictment, the timeline for the alleged criminal attempt to commit rape is between Jan. 9, 2015, and Feb. 6, 2015.
