After three weeks of testing its usefulness, the Main Street Shuttle’s ride has come to an end.

Friday, Oct. 12 was its last route around downtown Gainesville as construction on the Main Street Parking Deck continues. It was only being used a handful of times each week, so having it run 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday didn’t make sense.

“There was not enough use to justify continuing the service,” Gainesville spokeswoman Nikki Perry said in an email.

Construction on the deck should be completed Nov. 30.

Meanwhile, because of the construction, parking around the square has been reduced. That was the reason for the shuttle service being put in place, but Perry said she doesn’t think most people are having trouble finding spots.

“I think there actually is a good bit of parking downtown that people probably didn’t realize until they had to start searching for it,” Perry said in an interview Thursday, Oct. 4.
