Lula City Council has put off a Jan. 28 planning session until Councilwoman Vicky Chambers, who was seriously injured in a Jan. 10 wreck, can participate.

The council agreed to the postponement at the request of Mayor Milton Turner, who started Tuesday night’s regular meeting, before a customary prayer, by asking those present to remember Chambers.

The councilwoman is the intensive care unit at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an accident on Joe Chandler Road after she was hit head-on by Joshua Armour, 23, of Gainesville. Armour’s Honda Accord struck the front end of Chambers’ Toyota Sienna, authorities said.

Armour has been charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane and failure to use safety belt.

In other business, the council voted to set the general election for posts 1, 4 and 5 for Nov. 3.

Qualifying is set for Aug. 24-26 at City Hall, 6055 Main St., and the fee is $198.

Councilmen Larry Shuler, Lamb Griffin and Garnett Smith currently hold those seats, with their terms expiring Dec. 31.
