UPDATE:  LongHorn Steakhouse opened Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Braselton, adding to the growing restaurant scene at Old Winder Highway/Ga. 211 and Friendship Road at the Hall-Gwinnett County line.

The restaurant at 2700 Old Winder Highway, next to Culver’s restaurant, celebrated the opening with a “lasso-cutting” ceremony in partnership with the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Braselton.

The 5,465-square-foot eatery, which can seat some 180 guests, is situated on a hill overlooking Ga. 211 and Friendship Road, which are two major South Hall arteries.

The restaurant has the rustic interior LongHorn restaurants are known for, and the exterior should look familiar too.

Last year, RARE Hospitality International of Orlando, Fla., sought Braselton’s OK for design changes, such as a pitched roof over the entrance, that LongHorn considers “an integral part to our brand identity.”

Training has been taking place at the LongHorn, which has about 80 employees, said managing partner Todd Haskell during a visit to the restaurant Friday, Sept. 13.

The restaurant, which serves steaks, chicken and fish, would be part of a burgeoning restaurant row on Ga. 211. Culver’s, Chick-fil-A, Baskin Robbins, Arby’s and Dunkin Donuts have opened there this since last year. A Starbucks coffee shop also has recently opened off Ga. 211 north of Friendship Road, and a Jersey Mike’s Subs is also coming to the area.

Economic observers have said much of the area’s growth stems from Gainesville-based Northeast Georgia Health System’s opening of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton campus off Friendship Road in 2015.

In addition to eateries, medical offices have sprung up in the area.

Frank Norton Jr., CEO of Gainesville-based The Norton Agency, which developed Highpoint Medical Center, off Friendship Road, has said the Braselton area is becoming a “next generation city.”

“This is a really unique, emerging area,” he said.

Haskell said LongHorn scouted out locations before settling in Braselton.

“It’s a great location. We’re so centrally located here,” he said.
