If you’ve been wondering about something in your community, Ask The Times is your place to get answers. The following question was submitted by a reader and answered through the efforts of our news staff.

I understand that after the new Boling Bridge is completed, the old bridge is to be removed. Will the old concrete pilings that hold up the old bridge also be removed as part of the destruction or will they be left in place?

“Yes, once the new bridge is completed, the existing bridge will be demolished. All of the piers will be removed down to the bottom in an environmentally sensitive manner,” Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mohamed Arafa wrote in an email. “The contract for this bridge replacement project covers both the construction of a new bridge and the removal of the old bridge.”
