Motorists who travel I-985 should prepare once again for delays and lane closures as the latest step in the road’s makeover gets underway Monday.
Georgia DOT crews will begin working during the day on I-985’s northbound lanes to replace concrete slabs. This work will close the right lane between I-85 and State Route 20 on weekdays between 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and continue through Friday, April 5.
Additionally, the grinding and striping project will begin Monday night in the same area. This project will require lane closures overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday to Friday.
“We understand this will be inconvenient for the I-985 commuters with daytime and nighttime closures until the first week of April. However, the good news is after this project is completed the entire (roadway) from the Interstate 85 split to Jesse Jewell will be a brand new driving surface,” said Assistant District Engineer, Brandon Kirby who works in the Gainesville District office.
This work on the roadway’s surface includes smoothing, increasing skid resistance and reducing noise on the driving surface.
Drivers are asked to plan ahead if they are traveling this way as there will be workers and equipment in the lanes.
