If you’re wondering about how to make an extra buck this summer, Lanier Islands Resort may have your answer.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, the Georgia Department of Labor will hold a recruiting event at the resort’s human resources office, 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway, Buford, to fill 100 seasonal jobs.

Those interested can apply for positions at the resort’s Lanierworld water park, beach or campgrounds.

Turnout for the event could be heavy, officials with the labor department said.

“Hopefully, we’re expecting close to 800 to 1,000 (applicants); that’s what it’s been running in the past,” said Mark Winters, Gainesville representative at the Labor Department.

The jobs are open to those 16 or older. No experience is required.

The resort hopes to focus on hiring people to work in lifeguard positions and in food and beverage areas, which includes its catering business.

“Most people have an idea of what department that they want to be interviewed for, and at the actual fair we have managers there to interview so that it’s possible they can be hired,” said Shirley Hall, public relations representative at Lanier Islands.

The process lasts about an hour, Hall said. Applicants will be notified soon afterward if they have the job.

“Normally they will know (today) whether they have been scheduled for an orientation or if they have been hired,” Winters said.

Job seekers are advised to dress professionally.

“If you come in with vulgarity on your shirt, or something along those lines, you won’t be interviewed,” Winters said.

Interviewees will fill out a company application and go through the interview process with a resort staff member.

Salaries will depend on the position and will be discussed during the interview.

Today’s event is one of 14 job fairs planned at the resort.

Applications are also taken online at http://www.lanierislands.com/careers.
