Kit Dunlap, chairwoman of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, talks about the need for a unified effort on water conservation
The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to close one lane at a time Monday between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to work on the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Mundy Mill Road at Exit 16 off Interstate 985.

Crews will be trying to wrap up work that had been expected to be completed last week, said Teri Pope, DOT communications officer.

Tuesday, lanes will be shifted over on Mundy Mill.

"The part of Mundy Mill from I-985 to Publix will be scooted over closer to the Slack Auto Parts, Chick-fil-A, Publix side of Mundy Mill, scooting away from the Quik Trip, Krystal side of the road. This will give us asphalt access into Publix, Chick-fil-A and everything on that side of Mundy Mill," Pope explained.

The DOT urges drivers to slow down and pay attention as the traffic pattern is changed.

"On Ga. 53 near Hollywood Video, traffic will be rerouted to meet the portion of Winder Highway that is under construction. Changes are happening almost daily in the part of South Hall so please pay attention as you drive through the area and remember to slow down for your own safety," said Mike Evans, DOT board chairman.

The overall projected completion date is February 10, 2010 and the construction cost is over $74.6 million.

The DOT also is shifting traffic on Tuesday as part of the reconstruction of U.S. 441 south of Clayton in Rabun County.

Traffic using U.S. 441 from Boggs Mountain Road to north of the Tiger Connector will shift over on Tuesday, weather permitting, onto the two lanes that will eventually be the northbound lanes of U.S. 441, Pope said.
