A Gainesville family was displaced Monday after heavy smoke from a fire damaged their home.

The Gainesville Fire Department responded to the fire Monday afternoon at a single family home at 860 Airport Drive.

Firefighters battled the heavy smoke for about an hour before the fire was put out, Deputy Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said.

No one was injured from the fire, which was mostly contained in the kitchen.

The cause is still under investigation.

While the home was not a total loss, Yarbrough said it is not livable right now because of smoke and wiring damage.

Officials called Red Cross to assist the family with temporary living conditions.
