Monroe Vineyard, 5, gets ready to kick a ball during the Kick Out Cancer Kickball Tournament, a fundraiser Sunday to help Pam Boyce, a co-worker and friend to many of the participants, battle metastatic colon cancer.
Sunday’s gathering at North Hall Community Center & Park was all fun and games, but the mission was serious. Friends, family, co-workers and others gathered at the park off Nopone Road for the Kick Out Cancer Kickball Tournament, a fundraiser to help Pam Boyce battle metastatic colon cancer, particularly as she seeks certain treatments, including possible clinical trials. “She works full time and has insurance, but it’s the costs of getting to all these places” that make up the financial need, said Jessica Vineyard, who has worked with Boyce in the office of a Gainesville internist, Dr. Chris Recknor.
