Recent rains have spurred the Jackson County Water and Sewer Authority to update previous outdoor watering restrictions.

During the Jefferson City Council’s voting session on Monday, the group voted to approve the updated restrictions.

Residents who have an odd-numbered address may now use outdoor irrigation systems and sprinklers on Mondays and Wednesdays between midnight and 10 a.m.; even-numbered addresses can use outdoor watering systems on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the same time period.

Jackson County Water and Sewer Authority customers can also use garden hoses on their property for 25 minutes each day.

Previous commercial exemptions will still remain in effect. Those exemptions include retail garden centers, fruit and vegetable growers and sod producers.

The meeting was held at the Jefferson Civic Center on Kissam Street.

During the meeting, the group also approved establishing a fine schedule to be used to enforce city ordinance violations.

The group also approved leasing documents for a new fire service truck and a resolution recognizing Caleb Moore, a Jefferson Middle School student, for having a winning essay in the Georgia Municipal Association’s "If I Were a Mayor, I Would," essay contest.

During the council’s last work session, the group discussed updating the city’s noise ordinance and also potentially selling a piece of property at 55 College Ave.

Neither item was on this week’s agenda, but they are expected to be discussed further during the city council’s May 11 work session.
