A Fulton County inmate was captured Tuesday afternoon within three hours after walking away from his work detail in Hall County in the midst of widespread cleanup following the ice storm.

Alfred Bridges, 18, was sentenced for aggravated battery and serving time at the Hall County Correctional Institute. He was part of a work group clearing and cutting trees from roadways due to the weather, according to Deputy Nicole Bailes, spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Bridges walked off from his detail at about 2 p.m. in the area of Marler Drive and Georgia Avenue in South Gainesville.

“An observant citizen called in notifying us of a location on Bridges,” Bailes said at 4:40 p.m. “Shortly after that call deputies were able take Bridges into custody on Stallworth Street.”
