A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman said he wasn’t sure what prompted rumors about raids at a Gainesville poultry plant, but he said Thursday there was “no worksite enforcement action at chicken plants in Georgia today.”
Cox said there were also no enforcement arrests in Georgia this week.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said the department has not received any requests for assistance Thursday for these types of enforcement operations.
Gainesville Police were tipped to the rumors after receiving a call about media allegedly trespassing on Gold Creek property on White Sulphur Road around 11 a.m., Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.
“I can confirm that we have not been aware of anything or participated in anything. We do understand that there are some rumors circulating on social media, and they appear to just be rumors,” Holbrook said.
The rumors come after hundreds were arrested in raids at poultry processing plants in Mississippi last week. That news has fueled some local concern.
