Repair work to a bridge will close the left southbound lane of Interstate 985 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, if weather permits.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be repairing a bridge over Ivy Creek in Gwinnett County, which is just north of where I-985 merges with I-85.

The bridge railing was severely damaged and crews are replacing the concrete rail in sections, DOT Maintenance Engineer Todd McDuffie said. Repair work started this week.

Delays are expected, and DOT officials urge avoiding this area of I-985.
