Human remains and clothing were found Thursday in Dahlonega near where the wrecked vehicle of a Gwinnett County woman was found last year.
Tosha Herron, 36, was reported missing by her father Oct. 9.
Herron’s vehicle was found wrecked Oct. 12 on U.S. 129 northbound in Lumpkin County.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation worked with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Rapid Response Team to conduct a number of “large scale woodlands search” in the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area since that time.
“So far, we have confirmed at least 12 official searches by law enforcement,” GBI Public Affairs Director Nelly Miles said.
During a search Thursday, the Gwinnett team discovered “what appears to be human remains,” Miles wrote in a news release.
“During the operation, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Rapid Response Team located a boot that was the mate to Herron’s boot found shortly after the discovery of the accident in October,” Miles wrote.
The remains were sent to the GBI medical examiner’s office for examination and identification.
