How people can help stuff the bus with school supplies Aug. 3
school supplies

Not every child starts off the school year with the supplies they need.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the Salvation Army of Gainesville and local Walmarts are teaming up to make sure this doesn’t become a reality for kids in Hall County.

Lt. André Pereira, the corps officer for Gainesville, said people can visit the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 2892 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to pick up a list of needed supplies for the Stuff the Bus campaign event. Once participants purchase those items, they can drop them off at The Salvation Army collection bins in front of each store.

The Salvation Army of Gainesville has an online registry for those unable to visit Walmart on Saturday. People can have their online-purchased items delivered to The Salvation Army at 681 Dorsey St. in Gainesville.

“The cool thing about it is that it stays in our community,” Pereira said. “We’re going to hand all of that out to our community kids throughout Hall County.”

This event is one of around 3,000 taking place nationwide with The Salvation Army and Walmart. The two have organized the campaign for over 30 years.
