A 13-year-old girl called 911 just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to say her mother had been shot.

Gwinnett County police officials responded to Platinum Court in Hoschton and found a man acting erratically outside and a few houses away from where the incident happened. He was taken into custody, according to Cpl. Jake Smith.

Officers found Melissa Kimsey, 30, inside the house. She had been shot multiple times, and emergency responders declared her dead, apparently from the gunshot wounds, police said. Her daughter was not hurt.

The victim’s husband, Rodney Kimsey II, 31, is the primary suspect, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and when released will be in police custody.
