Four different vehicles struck and killed a horse Tuesday morning on Athens Highway, according to officials.
Georgia State Patrol are looking to find the owner of a horse that got out on U.S. 129/Athens Highway after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“The horse came from Smallwood Road and was trying to cross over the northbound side, and an SUV hit it on the northbound side,” Trooper Steve Thompson said.
The crash knocked the horse into the southbound lane into oncoming traffic. Drivers only reported minor injuries to the state patrol.
“Two full-sized SUVs hit it, and then it went up under a tractor trailer,” Thompson said.
The trooper said the horse was a dark brown and had no markings. Thompson has been unable to locate the owner.
“I spent two days knocking on doors at Smallwood Road and (U.S.) 129 and Gaines Mill trying to find the owner,” he said.
The case is still under investigation.
Anyone with information on the situation is asked to call the patrol post at 770-535-6910 for Thompson, who is the lead investigator.
