Homebuying help meeting

When: 9-11 a.m. Saturday

Where: Keller Williams, 631 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville

Cost: Free

Potential homebuyers can learn about help with a house purchase at a meeting Saturday.

The free meeting will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday and will outline programs available to help with home purchases.

Representatives of the Gainesville Housing Authority and Hall County government; Homestar, a local closing attorney; and Judie Crawford, chief financial officer for Keller Williams, will offer information at the meeting.

“There’s so many people out there that do not know there are grants and programs out there that both the city of Gainesville and Hall County offer,” said Dianne Hicks, the organizer of the session and an agent with Keller Williams Lanier Partners.

One example of housing programs is the Neighborhood Stabilization program, provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It deals with neighborhoods that have a high number of foreclosed and/or abandoned houses.

Hicks said those presenting would outline the conditions for obtaining loans or grants for houses. She noted that different programs have different requirements for income levels and credit scores, among other factors.

The Saturday meeting is the first time it will be presented, but Hicks said it will be repeated. A second time for the session should be announced at Saturday’s meeting.

Hicks said the agencies and businesses involved “especially want to try to reach city workers, teachers, police, veterans — there are so many programs available.”

Among those expected to attend are Jessica Robinson, grants manager for Hall County, and Ana Camp of Homestar.

The Keller Williams office is at 631 Dawsonville Highway, behind Panera Bread in Gainesville.

Hicks noted she is a native of Gainesville.

“I find it an honor to be a part of building Gainesville back and creating homes for many who are unaware of the opportunities in our area,” she said.
