FLOWERY BRANCH — Three Flowery Branch High School seniors won first place Saturday at the Georgia High School Association’s State AAA Literary Meet at Houston County High School.
The school’s Girls Trio — Sophia Allison, Sarah Dunham and Delana Thomas — were competing for a third consecutive year, having won the Region 7-AAA Literary Meet each year.
The girls have placed at state year, finally claiming the top prize.
The students competed against eight other regional winners from across the state.
Each trio had to prepare two contrasting selections, which were judged on accuracy, tone, diction, rhythm, phrasing, interpretation and presentation.
“It was a thrilling experience,” said Stacie Mavis, the students’ coach, as well as their chorus teacher.
“... Teaching these young ladies has been a blessing. Their talent and work ethic are exceptional and it is their desire to excel that has earned them the title of state champs.”
