In a more somber setting across town from the annual Memorial Day Parade on Green Street, honor guards took part in a 24-hour changing of the guard as part of an annual Memorial Day vigil. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Hall County Fire Services participated in the event at Memorial Park Cemetery off Memorial Park Drive in Gainesville. “We owe it to the heroes that died and the loved ones left behind to make sure that their sacrifices are remembered and that their service to this nation will always be honored,” Sheriff Gerald Couch said during a brief noon ceremony.
