Hall looks to buy new firetruck

The Hall County Board of Commissioners is set to approve about $1 million in spending on Thursday for the purchase of a new firetruck with an aerial platform.

During a training exercise in July, firefighters TJ Elliott, Stephen Jackson and Will Griffin were seriously injured when the bucket atop a fire truck ladder fell 44 feet.

That truck has since been taken out of service while an investigation into the cause of the accident continues.

Replacing the truck is necessary for the county to retain its upgraded insurance rating, set to take effect in October, officials said.

The Insurance Services Office has bumped up Hall County’s rating to PPC 3 following a review of fire department resources, water department operations, emergency communications systems and prevention initiatives.

The board meets at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
