The Hall County Schools board will discuss more major projects at its meeting tonight.
“We’ve got several renovations. I don’t have a dollar amount figured,” said Damon Gibbs, Hall County Schools’ special purpose local option sales tax coordinator.
“It’s going to be SPLOST funding. We’ll be anticipating a good percentage coming back from the state in entitlement funds (to help with the cost).”
The renovations include re-roofing 43,000 square feet of Lyman Hall Elementary, 34,000 square feet of McEver Arts Academy and 56,000 square feet of Spout Springs School of Enrichment, Gibbs said.
Tadmore Elementary will have its gymnasium re-roofed and the entire heating, ventilation and air conditioning system replaced. Lula Elementary will have about 23,000 square feet of its HVAC system redone as well.
All the new projects are set to be done over summer 2012. Gibbs said the board will coordinate with summer schools to be moved to other locations if needed.
“We’re also replacing the roof and HVAC at West Hall Middle this summer and we’re going to put air conditioning in the four high school gymnasiums that don’t have it — Johnson, East Hall, Chestatee and North Hall,” Gibbs said.
There are two ongoing construction projects in the school system at DaVinci Academy and the former Jones Elementary School building.
“We’re going to start those two after Christmas,” Gibbs said. “We’ll be hiring a construction manager by Nov. 1 with work anticipated to begin Jan. 1.”
All Hall County schools will undergo a complete HVAC technology system upgrade, different from the equipment replacements at Tadmore and Lula this summer, over the next year as well.
That project, instituted in two phases, one for middle and high schools and the second for elementary schools, was approved in July at a cost of about $1.7 million in SPLOST dollars.
