GSP: Driver high in wreck that killed teen, put 3 in critical condition
A wreck on Thompson Bridge Road/Ga. 60 near Price Road on Tuesday night killed one person and seriously injured three others.

A Gainesville teen died this morning and three others remain in critical condition following a wreck with a man accused of driving under the influence of drugs.

Jonathan Flanagan, 22, of Dahlonega was driving north on Thompson Bridge Road/Ga. 60 near Price Road when he crossed the center line and struck a car carrying a woman and three teens about 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Cpl. Jonathan Munger reported Flanagan was driving too fast for conditions. He could not confirm which drugs Flanagan was under the influence of until a chemical test is performed.

Flanagan consented to a blood test, and the results will return in 30 to 45 days, Munger said.

Elizabeth Alvarez-Perez, 44, was driving the other car and remains in critical condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville along with a 16-year-old and 14-year-old. Jesus Alvarez-Perez, 19, died at the hospital this morning.

Munger said all three were still in critical condition and unconscious when he checked around lunchtime, with the mother suffering extreme brain trauma.

“It’s a very tough time for the family, with Christmas being less than 20 days away,” he said.

Flanagan was transported to the hospital but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He will be transported to the Hall County Jail upon his release from the hospital. He is charged with first-degree vehicular homicide among other traffic and criminal charges.

Times reporter Nick Watson contributed to this report.
